How to help from a distance

Dear Neighbors,

We care about your health and are evaluating and monitoring the Coronavirus/COVID-19 situation. Arlington Fights Racism (AFR) cares about the safety of our town’s residents as well as our supporters. Making sure our most at-risk community members are not disproportionately impacted by this outbreak is our top priority; this includes individuals and families with elderly members in their household, those with chronic health conditions or who have compromised immune systems, and our economically disadvantaged households for whom missing work to avoid contact or staying home to take care of children may pose obstacles. We will be following the protocols recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Association (WHO), and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to keep our community safe. We want to err on the side of caution so we have regrettably decided to cancel our in person events for this week.

How can you support our efforts?

Spread the word and participate in our Virtual Events:

We will instead host virtual events at 8PM tonight, 3/11, and tomorrow, 3/12. The facebook event with dial in info for the call is:

For individuals that may not have access to the technology to participate in a call, please email and we will arrange for an individual phone call. We will make a decision on Friday regarding whether or not we will need to cancel our Saturday and Sunday events and update on Facebook.

Write a Letter to the Editor:

One way we are looking to increase support is through letters. Would you consider submitting a letter to the editor at the Advocate for this Sunday in support of Michaiah Healy, Lynette Martyn and/or Jo Anne Preston’s candidacy? We only have two weeks left to submit letters to the editor at the Advocate (they don’t let you submit the week prior to elections).

We advise people to submit their letters to by Sunday night but take them as late as 9AM Monday mornings. They should be 400 words or less, must be signed with your full name and street address and the Subject line should include “Letter to the Editor: (Subject) ex: In Support of Michaiah Healy for Select Board and Lynette Martyn for School Committee

We are still raising money in order to fund mailers which will be even more important due to the need to cancel candidate events. If you are able to donate please do so today so we can budget your donation into our print order.

Door knocking:

We have two weeks to knock on doors in 21 precincts. If you can sign up to knock on doors even just one evening or afternoon, it will make a difference. Email and we will hook you up with a precinct captain.
